Description
The “real Life” Hog Island Sheep thrived on the island for which they were named for centuries. Due to severe storms and rapid beach erosion, the citizens of Hog Island relocated to Virginia’s Eastern Shore in the 1930’s and 40’s. The sheep remained on the island until they were relocated by Nature Conservancy in the 1070’s.
Today Hog Island Sheep can be found at Mount Vernon and on private farms in Virginia. Sadly they are on the endangered livestock list
